Upskilling or looking for work? Gaining new skills can help you find rewarding work, whether you’re leaving school, employed or looking for a job. Fee-free Summer skills courses can help you get skills for jobs in a wide range of industries including Hospitality and Supply Chain sectors in demand.

The Summer Skills program has been designed specifically with school leavers in mind. The program allows you to dip your toes in to the vocational training world by exploring courses that interest you and help to gain valuable skills to take with you wherever you want to go.

That’s why the NSW Government is offering fee-free, industry aligned short courses for young people aged between 16-24 who have left school and want to learn new skills.

You may be able to study a fee-free course if you are:
aged between 16-24 and have left school*.

You will also need to be:
• living or working in NSW
• an Australian/New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder.

To reiterate, if you are interested in accessing fee-free training you can do so regardless of your employment status, whether you’ve studied before and whether you have any prior qualifications.

No matter who you are, Summer Skills makes it easier to access the training you need to enter areas of skills shortage or high demand.

*Eligible participants must have completed Year 10 and left school permanently.

SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
Extract and serve espresso coffee beverages using commercial espresso machines and grinders. It requires the ability to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and assess espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders.

SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
Use personal hygiene practices to prevent contamination of food that might cause food-borne illnesses. It requires the ability to follow predetermined organisational procedures and to identify and control food hazards.

Duration:
Course will run for three days

SITHFAB007 Serve food and beverage
Skills and knowledge required to serve food and beverages to customers in a casual dining setting. It covers the skills required to prepare the outlet for the service period, interact with customers to take orders, serve and clear food and beverage, and complete end of service tasks.

SITXCCS006 Provide service to customers
Skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with and provide quality service to both internal and external customers. It requires the ability to establish rapport with customers, determine and address customer needs and expectations, and respond to complaints.

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to shift materials safely using manual handling methods.

TLIF3003 Implement and monitor work health and safety procedures
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) procedures in compliance with relevant WHS/OHS regulations.
